Comparison of Hardwax oils to Polyurethane Finishes

In comparison to the commonly-used plastic finishes such as polyurethane, Hardwax Oils are easily repairable, either on the entire floor or for a simple spot-repair. In contrast, plastic finishes are not spot-repairable, so in order to repair any damage it is necessary to completely sand down and re-finish the floor, regardless of size.

Plastic-finished floors need to be re-sanded approximately every 7 - 10 years, although studies have indicated that high traffic areas may require re-finishing a great deal sooner. Having applied Osmo Hardwax Oil initially, we recommend that your floor is simply refreshed every 1 - 5 years. In high traffic applications, such as commercial and industrial floors, refreshing is recommended more often. Osmo oil also has a professional version of the Hardwax oil called Polyx Professional Hardwax Oil.
